Stampfer Dreams

Description

STAMPFER DREAMS is a found-footage film that uses only animations from the pre-cinema era. These animations originate from the Stroboscopic Discs, an invention presented by Simon Stampfer in Vienna in 1833. The diverse animation loops of these discs already hint at the variety of later film genres; accordingly, STAMPFER DREAMS combines representational and abstract sequences. Starting with the wheel of a watermill, the young Simon experiences three dream visions of future developments in technology and art – until these turn into nightmares.
