Peru, just as many Latin-American countries, is a very unequal country and with very limited health resources. People of low income, which represent the majority of the population, cannot access private health care and must relay on a dilapidated public health care system. On top of that, people outside the Capital is forced to travel to Lima to gain access to Cancer treatments.
Cancer is a combatible disease if treated in time. The Peruvian Cancer Foundation has been carrying out an annual fundraising campaign called “Ponle Corazon” since 1983. Its goal is to raise funds to cover the logistic and lodging expenses for the patients of limited resources forced to travel to the capital.
