Triggered by the revealing way of dressing of one of their granddaughters, four old women, reflect on their memories of old times when they themselves were young and how different the relationships between man and women were back then. Their voices merge into one single voice, that of the grandmother Vera, who tells her story in proper details.
GRANNY’S SEXUAL LIFE was chosen by the festival’s jury consisting of Mo Harawe (filmmaker based in Vienna, Austria), Inja Korać (programmer at Motovun Film Festival and producer of the industry programme at Zagreb Film Festival) and Léo Soesanto (Paris-based film journalist and programmer, head of short films selection Cannes Critics Week).
Their statement reads: “To a film which handles the themes womanhood and memory with bold choices of filmmaking. It’s hard to believe that just two generations ago women’s identity was so ignored. And it still is: that’s why it’s a film which needs to be seen.”
The film is now a candidate for a nomination in the category ‘European Short Film’ at the European Film Awards 2022.
The short film programme is organised by the European Film Academy in co-operation with a series of film festivals throughout Europe. At each of these festivals, an independent jury presents one of the European short films in competition with a candidacy in the short film category of the European Film Awards.
This is the third short film candidate for 2022. After the annual cycle is completed, the participating festivals will nominate five short films from this list. Afterwards, the more than 4,100 members of the European Film Academy – film professionals from all over Europe – will vote for the overall winner that will be presented at the 35th European Film Awards Ceremony.
