The aims of the European Film Awards are:
- To celebrate the excellence and diversity of European cinema
- To attract new audiences to European film
- To draw attention to (new) European talent

Legal body of the European Film Awards is the European Film Academy e.V. The executive body is the Academy Board. The board consists of a chair, two deputy chairs, and up to 16 further board members.

The 38th European Film Awards will be presented by the European Film Academy e.V. and European Film Academy Productions gGmbH on 17 January 2026 in Berlin/Germany.

The selected and nominated films should reflect the European Film Academy’s Diversity & Inclusion Standards for the diverse representation of underrepresented groups in front of and behind the screen.
