Eligibility
6.1
The selection and nomination procedure of feature-length animation films is a co-operation with CARTOON, the European Association of Animation Film.
6.2
Eligible are European feature-length animation films intended for theatrical release which meet the general eligibility criteria (see 3).
Animation films taken into consideration must have a minimum length of 60 minutes. The Academy board has the right to refrain from this rule in exceptional cases.
6.3
A film is considered an animation film with a minimum of 50 % of the film being animated. In case of doubt, a decision will be made by the Academy board.
6.4
Submitted European animation films are also taken into consideration for the category EUROPEAN YOUNG AUDIENCE AWARD provided they meet the respective eligibility criteria of the category (see 12).
Academy Shortlist
6.5
A committee composed of animation experts appointed by CARTOON and the Academy Board selects up to 8 feature-length animation films for the EUROPEAN FILM AWARDS ANIMATION FILM SELECTION as part of the Academy Shortlist proposed to the Academy members to be considered for a nomination for EUROPEAN ANIMATION FILM.
6.6
The shortlisted animation films are announced to the public and are made available for viewing to the Academy members at the latest in October together with the EUROPEAN FILM AWARDS FICTION FILM SELECTION and the EUROPEAN FILM AWARDS DOCUMENTARY FILM SELECTION as the Academy Shortlist.
Nominations and election of winners

There are five nominations in the category EUROPEAN ANIMATION FILM. Based on the ANIMATION FILM SELECTION, three to four of the nominations are voted for by the Academy members. The Academy board can add up to two nominations in this category. The board’s nominations need to be agreed on by the majority of the board members present at the nomination meeting.
6.8
Animation films nominated for the category EUROPEAN ANIMATION FILM also run for the category EUROPEAN FILM (see 4).
6.9
Based on the ANIMATION FILM SELECTION, films can be considered by the Academy members of the respective chapter for a nomination in the following ARTS & CRAFTS CATEGORIES (see 7): EUROPEAN COMPOSER (ORIGINAL SCORE), EUROPEAN EDITOR, EUROPEAN PRODUCTION DESIGNER and EUROPEAN SOUND.
6.10
The award EUROPEAN ANIMATION FILM is presented to the European director(s) (see 3) of a feature-length animation film. The award EUROPEAN FILM is presented to the European director(s) and the European main producer(s) (see 3) of a feature-length fiction, documentary or animation film.
