This year’s EURIMAGES CO-PRODUCTION AWARD, an award acknowledging the decisive role of co-productions in fostering international exchange, goes to Luís Urbano.
Luís Urbano was born in 1968 in Águeda, Portugal. He graduated in Economics at ISEG – Universidade Técnica de Lisboa (1994), when Economics was also considered as a Social Science. In 1996, he founded the cultural production co-operative, “Curtas Metragens, CRL” the organisation behind the Vila do Conde International Short Film Festival. He was one of the festival´s directors, till 2004 and in 2000 has spearheaded the Portuguese Short Film Agency. |
In 2005, he joined Sandro Aguilar in the production company, “O Som e a Fúria”. Since then, he has produced many films by renowned directors among which Miguel Gomes, João Nicolau, Sandro Aguilar, Salomé Lamas and Manoel de Oliveira. He also produced LETTERS FROM WAR and EMPIRE HOTEL by Ivo M. Ferreira. Recently, he produced and / or co-produced HOW FERNANDO PESSOA SAVED PORTUGAL by Eugène Green, FRANKIE by Ira Sachs, TECHNOBOSS by João Nicolau and PATRICK by Gonçalo Waddington. EURIMAGES supported his company as delegate producer of ARABIAN NIGHTS, VOLUMES 1 to 3 by Miguel Gomes, ELDORADO XXI by Salomé Lamas and beforementioned PATRICK by Gonçalo Waddington.
Luís Urbano was also EFP Producer on the Move, Cannes 2007.
The EURIMAGES CO-PRODUCTION AWARD is presented by EURIMAGES, a support fund for film co-production, distribution and exhibition established by the Council of Europe in 1988. |
