Marguerite is madly in love with the Viscount d'Aveleda, a strange gentleman, both rich and refined. The Viscount loves Marguerite, but has a terrible hidden secret which will be revealed to her on their wedding night. Don Joan is wild about Marguerite, and devoured by jealousy.
