Formerly known as Mogador, Essaouira was the first sardine fishing port in the world. But today, the fish have left their living waters. Trawlers from foreign countries are dragging the waters with their death nets, killing an entire ecosystem. Thousands of Moroccan fishermen from Essaouira, Safi and Agadir have to move further down south to Dakhla in the Sahara in hope of catching some fish.
