Synopsis

The years of exile in the life of Stefan Zweig, one of the most read German-language writers of his time, between Buenos Aires, New York and Brazil. As a Jewish intellectual, Zweig struggles to find the right stance towards the events in Nazi Germany, while searching for a home in the new world.

Biography

Maria Schrader, born in Hannover in 1965, co-directed Dani Levy’s film THE GIRAFFE (1998). The first film she signed on her own is LOVE LIFE, which was shot in Israel in 2007 and is based on Zeruya Shalev’s novel with the same title. The film premièred at the Festa del Cinema in Rome in 2007.
She started her acting career as a student at the Staatsschauspiel Hannover and subsequently studied at the Max Reinhardt Seminar in Vienna.
Maria Schrader has worked with directors such as Margarethe von Trotta, Doris Dörrie, Hans W. Geissendörfer, Peter Greenaway, Rajko Grilic and Agnieszka Holland. In 1999, at the Berlinale, she received the Silver Bear for Best Actress in AIMEE & JAGUAR by Max Färberböck.
Recently, she thrilled television audiences in the award-winning and internationally renowned series DEUTSCHLAND 83 (2015).
