Martje is the successful manager of a laundry, but has a poor social life. Everything changes when new driver Lou shows up for work. Martje falls for his charms. She overcomes her usual shyness and is intimate with him. But things turn out differently. After a humiliating incident her employers imprison the man she loves. She does not stop them and, torn by her extreme emotions, she slowly drifts away from reality. SOUTH is an intense character study; a psychological drama from the Dutch director Martin Koolhoven (The Cave, Amnesia). The film has received many positive critics in The Netherlands. Especially the main actors Frank Lammers (Shouf Shouf Habibi, Grimm), Monic Hendrickx (Polish Bride, Nynke and twice winner of the Dutch Film Festival's actress award) and Oksana Akinshina (Lilja 4-ever) were praised for their excellent performances.
