Our Stork

A mi gólyánk

Hungary

Synopsis

In a small Hungarian village, a stork has been left behind when its fellow birds under¬take their annual migration to Africa. The villagers are ordi¬nary people with all the normal human weaknesses, hopes and ambitions central to mankind throughout the world. Gradually, the stork is integrat¬ed into village life and becomes regarded as a villager by the residents. The film follows the life of the 'new villager' over the pas¬sage of a year: from autumn through the long, cold winter as the stork experiences first-hand the peculiarities of human life. But, with the onslaught of spring, the other storks begin returning from their long jour¬ney and it is time for the 'vil¬lager' to rediscover its true identity and to discover love for the first time. Directed by Livia Gyarmathy, OUR STORK is a unique examination of the rela¬tionship between man and ani¬mal, in which the images them¬selves create a humorous, ironic dissertation on the interactions between the natural world and the world of man.
