Director's Statement
DAD'S SNEAKERS is a fictional part of the long-term documentary coming-of-age film OUTSIDE. Its main character for some time was in a rehabilitation center for children deprived of parental care. The more I immersed in this theme, the more I realized how far our society is from realizing the scale of the problems of children without families. I felt the need to share my observations and experiences of communicating and interacting with children and adolescents, as well as representatives of the state care system. My goal was to convey the feelings of the child during the adoption, and the invisible but strong connection with the biological parents. This story that is in the basis of the film is absolutely fictional and inspired by first-hand observation of the life in rehabilitation centres and the study of the psychology of children growing up in difficult life circumstances. We chose the documentary style of filming in order to convey the state of the main character as sensually as possible.
