The European Documentary Award of the Year went to Jens Meurer, the German author, director, producer and founder of Egoli-Films in Berlin. He represents a new type of directors of documentaries with his border-crossing, cosmopolitan and sensible view on the moving social and political erosions and evolutions of our times. Cosmopolitan are his topics: films about Harlem, the last year of the Soviet Union and the new old times in Russia, about the overcoming of the Apartheid in South Africa and his greatest challenge: the history of the Jeckes, the [German-speaking] Jewish immigrants in Israel.
