Nominations 

7.1 

Should a group of film professionals run for a nomination in one of the ARTS & CRAFTS CATEGORIES, all credited persons are listed and nominated provided the general eligibility criteria are met (see 3.2). 

7.2 

Based on the feature-length films of the Academy Shortlist three nominations in each of the following categories are voted for by the Academy members of the respective chapter: 

  • EUROPEAN CASTING DIRECTOR 
  • EUROPEAN CINEMATOGRAPHER 
  • EUROPEAN COMPOSER (ORIGINAL SCORE) 
  • EUROPEAN COSTUME DESIGNER 
  • EUROPEAN EDITOR 
  • EUROPEAN MAKE-UP & HAIR ARTIST 
  • EUROPEAN PRODUCTION DESIGNER 
  • EUROPEAN SOUND 

7.3 

EUROPEAN CASTING DIRECTOR 

Eligible are European casting directors with an on-screen credit corresponding to “Casting Director” or “Casting” who collaborate with the film’s director(s) and producer(s) on the creative consideration of the acting ensemble of a film. 

Casting directors who are also working as casting agents are not eligible in cases where they have cast talent they are representing. 

The Academy members of the CASTING DIRECTOR chapter are voting for three nominations based on the shortlisted feature-length fiction films. 

7.4 

EUROPEAN CINEMATOGRAPHER 

Eligible are European cinematographers with an on-screen credit corresponding to “Cinematographer”, “Cinematography” or “Director of Photography” who collaborate with the film’s director(s) and producer(s) on a creative basis shooting the film. 

The Academy members of the CINEMATOGRAPHY chapter are voting for three nominations based on the shortlisted feature-length fiction and documentary films. 

 7.5 

EUROPEAN COMPOSER (ORIGINAL SCORE) 

Eligible are European composers with an on-screen credit corresponding to “Composer”, “Music by”, “Original Score by” in a film who have been engaged to work specifically on the music of that film. Eligible composers have worked creatively with the film’s director(s) and producer(s) in order to compose the essential part of the music – at least 60 % of the total duration of all music – in the film. The Academy board has the right to refrain from this rule regarding the percentage in exceptional cases. 

No single pieces of music can be nominated, but the composer who is responsible for concept and composition of the music in the film.  

The Academy members of the COMPOSER chapter are voting for three nominations based on the shortlisted feature-length fiction, documentary and animation films. 

7.6 

EUROPEAN COSTUME DESIGNER 

Eligible are European costume designers with an on-screen credit corresponding to “Costume Design” who creatively collaborate with the film’s director(s) and producer(s) on the costume design of a film. 

The Academy members of the COSTUME DESIGN chapter are voting for three nominations based on the shortlisted feature-length fiction films. 

7.7 

EUROPEAN EDITOR 

Eligible are European editors with an on-screen credit corresponding to “Editor”, “Editing” who creatively collaborate with the film’s director(s) and producer(s) on the editing of a film. 

The Academy members of the EDITING chapter are voting for three nominations based on the shortlisted feature-length fiction and documentary films. 

7.8 

EUROPEAN MAKE-UP & HAIR ARTIST 

Eligible are European make-up and hair artists with an on-screen credit corresponding to “Make-Up Artist” or “Hair Artist” or similar who creatively collaborate with the film’s director(s) and producer(s) on make-up and hair of the actresses and actors of a film. 

For each department – make-up and hair department – one individual can be credited as head of department, but the creative achievement has to be seen as a common team effort. 

This category honours any alteration to the appearance of an actresses’ or actors’ face, head or body achieved through the practical and physical application of cosmetics, three-dimensional materials, prosthetics or facial hair applied directly to the actresses’ or actors’ face, head or body as well as any change in the appearance of actresses’ or actors’ hair through hairstyling or (partly applied) wigs or similar. 

The Academy members of the MAKE-UP & HAIR chapter are voting for three nominations based on the shortlisted feature-length fiction films. 

7.9 

EUROPEAN PRODUCTION DESIGNER 

Eligible are European production designers with an on-screen credit corresponding to “Production Design” who creatively collaborate with the film’s director(s) and producer(s) on the production design determining the visual appearance of a film including set design, scenery, decorations, and props in a film and are primarily in charge of the production design and the implementation of its concept. While set decorators may be credited in addition for fiction films, art directors cannot be considered for this category. If the production design of a film consists primarily of animation and digital art, the designer most responsible for this achievement may also be considered. A set decorator is only considered if physical sets were built for the film. 

The Academy members of the PRODUCTION DESIGN chapter are voting for three nominations from the shortlisted feature-length fiction films. 

7.10 

EUROPEAN SOUND 

Eligible are European supervising sound professionals who creatively collaborates as the head of department with the film’s director(s) and producer(s) on the sound (design/editing) of a film. 

Besides the supervising sound designer/editor the creative sound team may include production sound mixers, who served in that capacity for at least 2/3 of the principal shooting schedule as well as re-recording mixer(s). Re-recording mixers working only on pre-dubs or pre-mixes, or materials for international versions, cannot be taken into consideration. 

The Academy members of the SOUND chapter are voting for three nominations based on shortlisted feature-length fiction, documentary and animation films.
